When did you dilate? [1cm] [cervix]
Hello ladies, I 36W 2d
I today, and I had an appointment this morning. She checked my cervix and said it was still closed and thick. I was really hoping she would tell me that I am at least 1 cm now opening . I know I could technically still be pregnant for like, 6 more weeks (not really what I think!), But Im just ready for this SSOOOO baby to be born. I know something for 37 weeks is too early, but I also know that you can be dilated weeks before you actually go into active labor. So she followed by saying “so probably not a baby this week, and probably not next week either. Im so disappointed! It may sound selfish, but I want the baby out . I am so embarrassed and just tired of being pregnant. When did you ladies start to dilate, and how long after you give birth? Any suggestions how I could get things moving? I hope you all do very well!

Reply::wave: I'm 38 weeks 1 day and have not dilated or thinned out at all. And, to top it off, her head is still way high. I thought I would go early too since her measurements for a while have been a week ahead but at my last appointment, she was measuring exact to the day! So I guess she is staying put…but like the others said, you never know, it could just start to happen in a matter of hours. Good luck!!

Reply:I started dilating at 36 wks but did not go into labor until a week past my due date. I know how hard it is that last month or so. Seemed like it went on forever.
I just don't understand all of the inductions mentioned. You only need an induction if there is a problem. Your body knows how to have a baby. Women have been having them long before pitocin was invented
Not cutting anyone down it just seems weird. I know how much it sucks but I will not induce unless it's an emergency.

Reply:Thanks for all the replies! Reading them makes me feel quite a bit better. I woudn't want the baby to come now because I don't want a premature baby, I want him/her to be as healthy as possible obviously (although I think it would be a decent size). I'm sure you all understand how I feel though. There comes a certain point and all you can think about is having your baby in your arms and out of your body! Gemmalou–I feel for you. Lol…. Do you think they will induce labor if baby doesn't come on its own anytime soon?

my baby dropped at 35weeks. I was fingertip dilated at 36w; 1cm at 37w, 1-2cm at 38weeks and now I am in my 39th week and i am b/w 2-3cm 60% effaced and probably will be induced tomorrow or friday. I wanted her out too early but they come when they are ready! good luck!

Reply:I totally understand what you are feeling right now. I am 35w 4d and I was checked last night and told I was thinning but not dialating. So disappointing! So I have decided to do some more walking, sex, and bouncing on a yoga/birthing ball. None of these things will put you into preterm labor (neither of us want that!) but they will help get the cervix softened so it can dialate when it it ready!
At 37 weeks I am going to start drinking raspberry leaf tea as well. But I have heard that can cause some strong contractions, so you want to wait until you are full-term at 37 weeks.
Truth is, they are going to come when they are ready whether we like it or not. Doing a few of these things keep my mind occupied and make me think that I might actually be doing something though! ![]()

Reply:Hi! I dilated for DD about 37 weeks at 1 cm. However, I had preeclampsia and had to be induced for her at 38 weeks.
My friend went to the doc the day before she was due. She still wasn't dilated at all. She was so uncomfortable and just wanted it over! That night, however, her water broke (this after her doc says "see you next week!") and she had her daughter the next morning via c-section. Her cord was around her shoulders and wouldn't allow her to deliver. So, you could actually go anytime. It just depends on your body. But 36 weeks is still early, and you want a healthy baby, so aim for at least 38 weeks. Good luck and soon you will have that little on in your arms!! ![]()

Reply:Hang in there, you only have a few more weeks to go. Think of how far you've come!
I didn't dialate before labor began with either of my 2. My first was 9 days early, and my 2nd was 5 days early. With my 2nd, my cervix was still closed and wasn't softened 2 days before she was born, so I was scheduled to be induced 3 days later. I even went into the hospital the night before, and even then, nothing from my cervix, but the nurse said the monitor was showing contractions. I had braxton-hicks for weeks and really didn't feel the contractions when the nurse was talking. The OB put the gel in and told me to roll over onto my side. I rolled over and had a major contraction and they were intense and close together from that point until she was born 4 hours and 45 minutes later. After a closed cervix that didn't appear even close to being ready to have a baby any day soon, I went into labor on my own and had a baby 4 hours and 45 minutes later – the night before I was scheduled to be induced!
I wouldn't worry too much about not being dialated at 36 weeks. You could still go early, but 36 weeks is still a little too early. Hang in there! You're baby will be here soon!
Reply:With my other 2 I dialted early and ended up being dialated for weeks…..With DS #1 I was dialted to a 1, head down and low for like 4 weeks…..and DS #2 I was dialted to a 2 from the time I was 36 weeks or so until I delivered 5 days before I was due – DS #1 was delivered on his due date.
Good luck!!
