hi,

My gf and I have recently decided to break up. Today (11/16), she is a date for her late period. She told me she was worried because they do not feel that she is going to get her period. She said it happened before, but it is not normal. Usually she has PMS for about a week before her period . but this cycle is very small amount of symptoms. She switched to Karvia this cycle. We took precautions . waited seven days form the start of the pack b4 sex without condoms. With the rest of the cycle, I never cried in her heart. She has not missed no pills, nor did they differ by more than an hour or two. So im not extremely worried . but I know there is always a chance. So Im curious . I have something to worry about whether the emotional stress of the break-up (plus the 10 other things that are stressing out its other) reason for the delay in the period. I know that stress has an impact on periods . but what about PMS.

Thank you in advance for your answers.

Reply:Ditto to what Peaches said! Test, test, test. If she's already a day late for her period she can take the test right now and be confident the result is accurate.

Reply:Well, by the time I was one day late and pregnant, it was like PMS times ten (bloating, moody, sore breasts, crampy – sorry if too much info)! I know that when I was on birth control, my PMS pretty much went away, so that could be it for her too. Of course there is always a slight chance… Get a home pg. test – sounds like neither of you need the extra stress of not knowing.

Ok, I have a very important question. I am 22 years old and never been pregnant before. I would like to though! So I had AF 09-10 BF and I have it on the 22nd and 24th. So a few days later I started getting pain in my abdomen, they were nothing like AF cramps, but they were there and noticeable. My breasts were aching and I just felt different. So to get to the point yesterday. 2.11 I have the first response test. The first one came out positive, but the line was faint. I took the second one about half an hour later and was positive, but the line was even fainter.

Im still about a week away from my expected AF and want to know how accurate those results were. I wanted as soon as possible and I got what I wanted, but fun to know that Im afraid Im going to think Im pg and AF will show up anyway! Anyone have any advice or have seen like this? Thanks for reading and good luck to everyone!

One another question . The first nite we did it (unprotected) is right after I experienced a sort of sharp pain in my right lower abdomen, I found this rather strange. Is there anyway this would have meant something?

Reply:Congrats!

Best advice I can give is to spend some time reading all of the posts for the past few weeks… You'll learn alot just by doing that. Also, do a search for "pregnancy" and you'll find a ton of sites with good weekly info for you, and some that have weekly newsletters that can be emailed to you every week. I get 2 or 3 of these and look forward to reading them each Friday when I add a week to my pregnancy… I'm now 36 weeks.

Again, congratulations!

Reply:Congrats – my line was faint also. The pain you felt when you 'did it' was you ovulating.

Reply:Congrats! Getting_Tubby is right. Even the faintest of lines means you're pregnant. Mine was also faint the first time taking it. As long as you can tell it's a positive, you sure are preggo. Welcome to the board and hope all goes well! Call your ob/gyn and make an appointment soon.

-Liz

Reply:congrats! a positive hpt means you're pregnant no matter how faint the line is. the line would probably be darker if you took it again around the time AF is due & did it with the first pee of the morning.

Reply:Hope I can get some answers. Okay on 8/30 I had sex but we used the pull out method (I know I'm stupid). I got period on 9/11 and I started feeling tired so first thing I thought was I was pregnant. I tested twice and both negative. I got period on 10/13 but light and with discharge lasted normal days. Then I thought I'd test agian and still negative. I'm wating for my period again this month. I have symptoms of period but I feel paranoid. I've tested 4 times since Oct. I've had alot of discharge. like yellowish milky stretchy kind. I went for a pap smear mid Oct and the dr said everything was normal. I'm also taking Lipitor. Do you think pregnant? Do you think the medicine has something to do?

guy, From the dates listed in your post you should be due for your period anyday, right? Also from the dates you have listed it seems that your period is quite regular and from what you have posted all sounds normal. You have also had an exam as well as have done a few HPT's with negative results, so why do you think you may be pregnant?

With all that you have said the possibility of being pregnant is very slim.

Good Luck,
Valley

Reply:I think maybe it can be the medicine. You have taken a number of pg tests and all have come up negative. Have you had sex since 8/30 or are you thinking you are pg from that date. I would say you arent because the doctor would have been able to tell at your exam in mid october as you would have been at least 4-6 weeks and you've had normal periods since August. If you still feel that there might be a chance a blood test would definately tell you one way or the other. good luck!

I had my first serious ultrasound done last week. I have my report on yesterday. The nurse told me that the baby measures bigger than it should for 22 weeks. What could this be? Has anyone else had an ultrasound that their baby to read is larger than normal? Has anyone had an ultrasound done and been told that their baby is normal and a healthy weight? I need help with this. I really stressed over this. My first child weighed 7 pounds. I do not see how my second one can weigh more. Please help me.

Reply:Camden it varies, some doctors do them while others do not from what I have heard. For me I have had it done both times because those doctors believe in it. To be honest I dont know of any drs that dont require it to be done.

Reply:Sorry if I am a little off topic here. Is it true that a glucose test is not routine in the States? I heard this on a talk show the other day and was shocked! I live in Canada and the glucose test for diabetes is done at the same time several other routine blood tests are done.

With diabetes becoming an epidemic I'm surprised that a glucose test isn't done on every pregnant woman. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes during my second pregnancy and the only symptom I noticed(and didn't relate)was several UTIs. I also had one high reading after a finger prick test at the doctors office.

Reply:To answer you Barbara, I don't know if I was pregnant at the time of my last period. The ultrasound agreed with the date and had me at 22 weeks last week. They said it was just larger than should be. So, if I was 4 weeks ahead, wouldn't that mean that the ultrasound would have showed it being older than they said? Really confused now! I will tell the doctor next month about the gestational diabetes. I am sure that is what it is.

Reply:Hi,

Is there a possibility your due date is off? If you were pg at the time of your last period, you'd be 4 weeks further along than you think you are.

Ask your doctor about gestational diabetes since you do have family members that had it.

Good luck! Barbara

Reply:Thank you for your reply. I am only 23 weeks along in my pregnancy. I haven't been offered to take the test to seee if I have gestational diabetes. I didn't have it with my first, but I guess I can still get it with the second. If I do end up having it, can I watch what I eat to ensure it won't be a huge baby? My cousins had gestational diabetes. There kids were 10 pounders. I bet if my child is over 8 pounds, being I had a previous csection, they will probably make me have another csection with a baby this big. Maybe I am worrying over nothing at all. Thanks for your reply.

Reply:I had this happen. My fundal height was strange, and with being gestational diabetic, they sent me for another ultrasound to find out what was going on. Come to find out, my baby is in the 80th percentile for his age. Mine has LONG legs and LONG arms (daddy has the same). Are you diabetic? Because I know that with mine they did ab******l measurements on him as well just to make sure the diabetes wasn't affecting him.

I was told that because of the size of mine that if he doesn't come on his own in December that they'll induce during my 39th week (Jan.). Good luck! I don't think it's anything to worry about!
Im afraid he will the baby and sick patients. I have an appointment tomorrow Obstetrics and he wants to come. There was a sign that the last time telling people not to come in when they are sick with the flu because they do not want patients at risk. Heres the worst Senario now . What if he gives me the flu just in time for me to bear. He is always passing me by his cold ect . Will all this difficult. Labour looks hard enough, but with the flu on top of it! Will they let me hold him when the baby is born? I do not know if anyone knows this, but please reply because I am really worried about.

Reply:I hope that you don't go into labor while he is sick. If you do get sick and do go into labor, there are meds that you will get in your IV. I got the stomach flu with my last pregnancy. I went to the ER because I knew that I was dehydrated. Then ended up inducing me, 10 days early. It was a hard labor, but the meds really helped to stop the diarrhea and vomitting. Good luck! I hope that you and your husband are well before you go into labor or get induced!!!

Reply:Hi, this is Besafe20's husband, or DH as you all put it. I just wanted to reply to guy's reply about how I should just skip class, go home to momma, and put life on hold till I'm better. First off, I obviously would not go to my wife's appointment if it meant that anyone else would be in danger, I made a consious effort to stay away from everyone, not cough on anything, and not touch anything or anyone with my hands. Secondly, I'm attending a University, and it is no longer HIGH SCHOOL as some may be inclined to believe. You can't just "skip class" especially with tests. When the teachers say, "you must be here for the test unless you are on your deathbed" I think that's pretty serious. I can't afford to get a doctor's note because I have a high deductible on my insurance, and my classes are all upper-level difficult classes. Not trying to criticize or anything, just wanted you to know that real life is different than what some might believe. Anyway, I feel that I am just as ready to be a parent as any other right now, trying to take care of my basic daily responsibilities–not just run home to momma because I have the flu!!!

Reply:Again thanks for the replies. My DH is much better now. He started taking tylenol cold/flu and feels almost normal now. Yesterday he had a low temperature and today I think it is gone. I feel good so far (knock on wood). I did get some bad news at my appointment today. I have not progressed much at all in the last two weeks. I am 80 percent effaced and 1 centimeter dilated and due tomorrow  . The doctor said that he doesn't think I will give birth in the next week and he induces his patients at 41 weeks. He says that between 41-42 weeks problems and complications start occuring when babies aren't born yet. I am so sad. I asked him what the chances were of me going into labor naturally in a week from today and he said not good. He says it's looking like I will be induced. If I have to be induced I don't want to sit here pregnant for an extra week. I'm gonna see if he will induce me in a couple days. I will be 40 weeks anyways so why not get this baby out!!!

Reply:Hi,

Me again -

You have my sympathy! I've gotta say that if your DH is willing to make everybody sick so he can have his way, he's not ready to be a parent. Tell him to grow up or have him read this so I can tell him!

Why is he going to his classes when he's sick? No one there wants his germs either. Tell him to drive 2 hours and take his germs with him. He can come home when he's fever-free for 24 hours. He's probably sick because someone else came to classes when they were sick.

Good luck! Barbara

Reply:Boy, do I have a story for you!! I hope this puts your mind at ease…
A week before my due date (Dec. 8, 2003), I came down w/ a horrible case of the flu– really high temp, felt awful. I ended up in the hospital w/ iv fluids b/c I was having contractions due to fever and dehydration, but not strong enough for delivery. I was scared to death b/c they put me on the labor and delivery floor and put a sign on my door saying I was in quarintine and no one could enter w/o a mask and full scrubs. I was so terrified about giving my baby the flu and so scared I would have to deliver while sick. They released me from the hospital and I started to feel better, though not 100%. I still had a really bad cough. I ended up going into labor past my due date on 12/11/03 and the funny part is that the residual cough I had actually helped me push the baby out!!! The nurse told me to keep coughing!
Here's the part that may put your mind at ease– The dr. and nurses in the hospital said all the antibodies you are building against the flu, especially if you end up getting it, will pass on to your baby, so he/she will build up an immunity against it. They did say, though, that if I delivered while I had the flu, the baby may not have been able to go the nursery w/ the other newborns b/c they wouldn't have the immunity against it. Thankfully, my baby was born healthy and flu-free. It is probably going to be tough for you to avoid getting sick now, since your dh was probably contagious before he started showing symptoms. I wouldn't have him go to your appt, though, just for the consideration of the other soon to be mommies there. Just try to keep as healthy as you can, get a ton of rest and remember to keep drinking plenty of fluids!!!! Let your ob know about the situation b/c he/she may have other advice for what to do if you come down w/ the flu (and I really hope you don't!!) Take care!!!

Reply:Thanks for your replies. Unfortunately we are living in student housing in this really tiny apartment and it is hard to avoid him. I told him not to come to my appointment and he refuses to listen. He can't go stay anywhere because his parents live almost 2 hours from here and he has classes at the university each day. I can't go anywhere because all of my family is in Maryland. My mom is coming out on thursday and is worrying that my husband will get her sick. Just what we need, an apartment full of flu victims and a newborn baby! Oh I hope this illness stays with him and I don't get it or my mom! I will wash my hands lots and try to stay away but it is hard in this tiny apartment!

Reply:Hi,

What a bummer! Not exactly what the baby books prepare you for.

I suggest you call the doctor and ask all of those questions. DO NOT let your sick husband go to tomorrow's appointment. The staff, doctor, and patients do not need to be around him.

As far as delivery goes, if he's still sick, the hospital's policy will govern if he can be anywhere near the baby – even with scrubs and a mask on. It's hard to think of this, but to go while he's sick would really endanger the babies.

I suggest you really stay away from him, too. It's just for a few days. I'd call your doctor tonight in case he/she suggests one of you actually go stay with family so you don't catch it, too. Maybe he can go home to his mom!

Wishing him – and you – well – Barbara

Reply:Oh no! Just be VERY careful. You may want to sleep in a separate room from him until you think he isn't contagious. I would keep him to just one room in the house, and make sure you wash your hands constantly. If he rests for several days in a row and doesn't get up to do anything, I think he will beat it much faster than if he was out and about, so MAKE him rest! And I also wouldn't have him come to the appointment with you, he should be home sleeping. Don't worry, only like 1 in 20 people actually have the baby on their due date so the chances are very low. Just whatever you do, make sure you are careful so he doesn't give it to you, because that's all you need is you sick, then being around an infant who has no immune system!!! Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In the meantime can you have your mom or someone go to the appointment with you?

I stopped my bc in December and have since ttc. Judging strictly by my cm, shows that the only time I had ovulated the week immediately following the end of the last pack of pills (around 12.07). I had many ewcm for about four days. Since then, my cm ewcm never, but Ive read that you may ovulate w / o this kind of slime.

Im hoping I ovulated last Thursday, February 12 I was very watery cm and clear for about three days, but not ew. I had back pain and my right ovary area pain for several hours on Thursday. I broke with acne (which never happens) on Saturday. My nipples are pain for about three days now. My husband and I at the bded 7,8,9,11,12,13,14 and 15.

Yesterday when I wiped, there was a little brown tinted discharge. Today, the 22nd, when I wiped there was even more brown tinted discharge. Then, after my husband and had sex there was a lot of brown and pink tinged discharge that almost looked like old blood. AF is due on Wednesday, February 25. This does not seem to pre-discharge period. Im not feeling cramps or other PMS symptoms.

Can anyone relate? For anyone who has experienced implantation bleeding, what exactly did it look like? How long did it last? How many days before expected AF did it happen? Thank you!

Hello. Im going to be honest kind and I hope all is well. I just got married at the end of October . My husband is in the navy and the night before he went home, my new husband and I had unprotected sex for the first time. He did not ejaculate inside of me, but I know there are still a small chance of finding sperm move. Anyway, about ten days later I started feeling really sick (which is unusual because I have not thrown in years) and tired. My mother suggested I get a pregnancy test. I had (stupidly) went to the bathroom right before we went to get tested, and I actually had to drink water and force me to go. I recently found that the accuracy of the test.

Since then decrease, Im fine, but recently I have felt extremely tired, I am weird sinus headache, heartburn, nausea, sensitivity to odors, loss of apetite (usually foods that appeal to me), strange discharge, and just a general feeling of sluggishness and illness. I know that all these may be symptoms of pregnancy . and it is one month after unprotected sex. I think the first test may have been premature, and perhaps the urine is not as it should have been. But, since Im going through a stressful time, the first test was negative, and the sex was not fully followed through, I could just imagine it all in my mind? I know that the only way to know in order to retest, but I think Im just looking opinions.

It s frustrating for all of these things wrong, and contrary to my body feel, but wonder if I am Just making it all up in my mind. : (

-Confused

Edit: PS. I do not regularly, so I can not be used as a yardstick.

Reply:Congrats on your new marriage. I was prior Navy and my husband still is so I know how that is. First, I hope you are signed up with Tri-Care in case you are pregnant or is you get sick and need to go to medical. Second, it is always possible you could be. I would just wait and re-test again soon. I think you get the best, most accurate result in the morning. You may just have contracted a flu or some other illness too or sometimes if you are worried about being pregnant your may read into your symptoms more. Just wait and re-test to be sure. Let us know!
I also had a little bleeding, mucousy blood with a few small clots, which had me pretty worried, but I would expect a number of red blood cells, while not “flowing”. Anyway, now one day later Im still so painful in my entire abdomen, thighs, buttocks, hips . and so far no hints or contractions of labor. Just wondering if anyone had a similar experience and if you went to work or not. I read somewhere online that if the procedure hurts a lot, you probably were not ready for it and it will not work. So discouraging!

Reply:I had it done with my first at 37 weeks, I think. I was already 3 cm dilated and the doctor was impatient. It hurt really bad and I also had bleeding. I didn't go into labor. He did it again at 39 weeks when I was 4 cm…no labor. I was 5 cm the night before my due date and he induced. The baby still didn't want to come out and it was a horrible experience all around. I learned that it's better to be patient and wait. The baby will come when it is ready. Good luck!
