Reply:I was told that BH hapen throughout pregnancy ~ but you are often not aware of them until the later weeks.
The main difference is, BH are uncomfortable but not painful. Real contractions hurt. If you are in pain you should always seek advice.

Reply:Hi, I am so glad I read this!! I am 21 weeks and have BH like crazy, they drive me mad. This is my 2nd pregnancy..I didnt have BH with my first until about 7 months, but now my stomach stays hard alll the time. The thing that helps me is walking, and also taking a warm bath. My midwife says that there is nothing to worry about, as long as I have no spotting, but I do have discharge as well, which is normal. Good luck with your pregnancy, and hang in there!
Reply:Thanks for the heads-up, jakelewis!
Reply:This isn't a question I've posed to my OB as of yet (I'm just 12 weeks) but since it's been brought up here… Just how do you know you're experiencing BH and NOT true labor contractions? Seeing this thread scares me because I just know I'll freak out at the first sign of BH!
Reply:Hi -
I agree: CALL YOUR OB! My sad story is that I didn't call because it was the middle of the night and I didn't want to bother the doctor. I was 22 weeks and we lost the baby – it was labor and I had written it off as BH. Don't guess – call right now if you haven't done it already AND insist on being seen and checked!
All the best – Barbara
Reply:CONTACT YOUR OB!!!!
The book "What to Expect When You Are Expecting" says that "Report them immediately if they are frequent (more than 4 per hour) and/or accompanied by back pain (ab******l or pelvic) or any kind of unusual vaginal dishcharge, or if you are at risk for premature labor."
Good luck!!

Reply:Hi,
I have been experiencing BH contractions since about 18 weeks. I think they are pretty normal. My doctor didn't seem concerned at all, and he said it is fine as long as they are not accompanied by spotting. Regarding the discharge, since the beginning I have had increased discharge. Give your doctor a call just to let him/her know what's going on.
Take care,
guy
By the way we have the same due date.

Reply:Hi Mommyof3Sons! I am sorry about your concerns, but I was in the same boat as well. With the pregnancy of my four year old daughter i experienced both BH contractions and the colopscopy procedure. I would have a rock hard stomach all the time with BH, and my nurse said that it was normal. I had a 2 hour labor and my nurse joked that it was easy for me due to all of the BH, or practice, that my body had. Now I wouldn't worry about the procedure either. As BeSafe20 said they look at abnormal cells with a miscroscope, and it feels kinda like a normal PAP. Good Luck to both of you!
Reply:Hi sorry to hear about your troubles. ( I am 22 weeks pregnant too). I havent experienced BH as of yet, but im willing to bet this is because its my first pregnancy. In your case it could be because this is your 4th child and your muscles are more relaxed. This is my guess… I think the discharge is ok as long as it's not bloody. As far as your abnormal pap, guess what? Im in the same boat. They wanted to do a colposcopy last month but decided to repeat the pap in October because I had a vaginal infection. If my pap comes back abnormal again I will have a colposcopy. The doctor told me the colposcopy doesn't hurt at all and they just look with a small microscope to check out the abnormal cells. I heard that biopsies hurt but they won't do that to us because we are pregnant and we would bleed too much. Let me know how the colposcopy turns out. Did they tell you they wanted to run an hpv test? They said this to me I guess it is standard procedure.
